When I dive into hero shooters, my choice of character usually boils down to who I find the coolest. Take Zenyatta in Overwatch, for example—I’m drawn to his design, not his healing prowess. So, when Marvel Rivals came into the picture, I figured I’d apply the same logic. From the get-go, Magneto and Venom, as reimagined by NetEase, stood out and quickly became my top picks. But a new developer update has shifted my strategy a bit. With Marvel Rivals promising to reveal hero pick and win rates, selecting my favorites just got more strategic.
As Marvel Rivals heads towards its release, it’s entering a pivotal phase. NetEase Games has been working on this Overwatch challenger for quite some time, and while it features some of the most iconic characters from Marvel’s universe, mere star power won’t be enough for it to thrive. That’s why Marvel Rivals plans to break the mold by offering all heroes unlocked and free from the start, integrating destructible environments, and more.
There’s more under the hood of Marvel Rivals as a recent developer video unveils the game’s plan to provide official statistics on hero pick and win rates.
“Our gamers have been asking for more data on our heroes, and we’ve listened. When we launch, we’ll present comprehensive stats on our official website,” says Zhiyong Feng, Marvel Rivals’ lead combat designer.
The team is also set to unveil detailed combat stats like win rates and pick rates, although this will unfold gradually. Feng reassures players that meticulous collection of data post-launch will allow them to share these critical statistics at the appropriate time.
Understanding pick rates will reveal how frequently certain heroes are chosen and in which scenarios, while win rates will show how often these characters contribute to a team’s victory.
Feng also promises an expanded experience at the full launch of Marvel Rivals, with the introduction of four new maps within the inaugural month of season zero. Players can anticipate maps featuring the intergalactic empire of Wakanda, such as Birnin T’Challa and Hall of Djalia, along with the Hydra Charteris Base and the symbiotic environment of Klyntar. Each area will bring dynamic elements for strategy shifts and unique gameplay experiences, ensuring no two matches feel the same.
The development team has also shed light on their anti-cheat measures, which are set to be rolled out alongside the game’s launch. Enforcements are already in place for beta players who breach the rules. Feng notes that fewer than 1% of games have been affected by cheats, and highlights the team’s substantial progress in detecting these infractions.
As we approach the hero shooter’s debut, we have insights on all the Marvel Rivals characters you need to look out for, as well as projected timelines for the start of Marvel Rivals Season 1.
