Unlike its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth won’t be offering any downloadable content. But it’s not just a random decision on the part of the game’s director.
Many fans speculated about potential DLC after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth hit the shelves, especially since the Remake had additional content while waiting for its sequel. Director Naoki Hamaguchi cleared the air in a recent interview with the Daily Star, confirming that no such plans are in place for Rebirth. However, he delved into the reasoning behind this choice. “We definitely hear the fans who are eager for more content,” Hamaguchi noted. “I completely get it, but from my perspective, what they truly want to see isn’t necessarily DLC. The priority, I believe, is seeing the third installment of the series as soon as possible.”
Given this, the development teams are not allocating resources to create extra episodes at the moment. Hamaguchi emphasized, “We’re fully focusing our efforts on bringing the third installment to life as quickly as we can.” That seems like a pretty fair rationale, doesn’t it?
The Yuffie DLC for the Remake served as a nice bridge between games. If we’re considering characters from Rebirth who could potentially stand alone, Cid and Vincent Valentine come to mind. However, what could really be done with them remains a question. Particularly with Vincent, there might even be a possibility that Square Enix is considering a remaster of Dirge of Cerberus, similar to the Crisis Core: Reunion. Here’s hoping for the best for all those Dirge enthusiasts!
Earlier this week, our own Dom caught up with Hamaguchi to talk about what awaits players in the mini-games of the series’ third installment. Rest assured, there will be some fresh changes in store.
