Back in September, at Meta’s Connect event, we heard exciting news from Meta and Microsoft—they’re teaming up to introduce a feature that lets Windows 11 PCs pair wirelessly with Quest headsets. As the end of the year approaches, both companies have confirmed we’re on track to see this feature in preview by December.
What does this mean for Quest 3 and Quest 3S owners? You’ll soon be able to connect to your Windows 11 PC and create a multi-monitor setup, transforming your work environment in a way that’s familiar to those who’ve been using Apple’s Vision Pro with Mac since it launched its VR connectivity earlier in 2024.
Microsoft aims to roll this capability out in a public preview sometime in December, targeting those eager to boost their productivity. “Windows in mixed reality extends the full scope of Windows 11 to mixed reality headsets, kicking off with Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. Connecting to your local Windows machine or a Windows 365 Cloud PC from a Quest headset is straightforward, offering a high-quality, multi-monitor workspace in just seconds,” Melissa Grant, Senior Director of Product Marketing for Microsoft 365, shared in a blog post.
Back at the feature’s debut in September, Meta highlighted a seamless connection experience—simply glance at your keyboard, and you’re instantly in touch with your PC, pulling windows across multiple virtual screens. This new method marks a significant evolution from the existing Remote Desktop approach via Meta’s Air Link.
While the Quest series has primarily been celebrated as a standalone VR gaming titan, Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, sees the enhanced Windows integration as a pivotal move for this headset. “This integration paves the way to developing a comprehensive computing platform,” said Zuckerberg. “There’s more to Quest than just gaming; it’s set to be your go-to for applications, video streaming, and anything you’d expect from a versatile computer. Quest really is the full package.”
We’re on alert for further updates on the release timeline and will keep you posted as soon as we hear more.
