Today, Fast Travel Games, a well-known name in the VR community, made an exciting announcement. Their latest project, “Action Hero,” a virtual reality shooter bearing some resemblance to the popular Superhot series, is set to release on the Quest platform next month.
“Action Hero” takes inspiration from the time-freezing mechanics we loved in Superhot and its VR variant. In this game, time only progresses when you move, which adds a strategic layer to the intense gunplay, reminiscent of John Wick’s action-packed style.
Scheduled for release on December 12th, this game will be available for Quest 2 users and above. What sets “Action Hero” apart is its format: players step into the shoes of the main character across five distinct ‘films’, each offering a unique genre twist.
Each film is divided into four acts, with each act comprising five scenes. Your mission? To defeat enemies and weave through obstacles in stylish slow-motion, gaining speed as you move faster. Fast Travel Games emphasizes the need for sharp reflexes and thoughtful tactics—suffer a hit, and you’ll have to start the scene from scratch.
The developers have teased several genres already. Expect to dive into a thrilling heist, experience an Indiana Jones-esque adventure, face off against cyborgs, or embody a stealthy ninja, the latter showcased in their latest trailer.
Aside from its core combat experience, “Action Hero” promises intense boss battles and a variety of weapons tailored to each film’s theme. Additionally, there will be five ‘Director’s Cuts’ for players seeking fresh challenges and more unpredictable scenarios in each level.
Mark your calendars for December 12th for the exclusive release on Quest 2 and newer headsets, all for $20. Until then, you can add “Action Hero” to your wishlist on the Horizon Store.
