Recently, a Windows 11 update stirred quite a commotion among gamers, particularly impacting several Ubisoft titles including Star Wars Outlaws.
Isn’t it just the way with computers? We depend on them for so much, and yet sometimes, a single update can throw a wrench in the works for no clear reason. Although gaming might not be a life-or-death situation, the latest update to Windows 11 has caused headaches for players of Ubisoft games, rendering a few of them unplayable. Not long after the update last week, players noticed issues launching several Ubisoft titles. It turns out, it’s not just your setup at fault—Microsoft has confirmed that the update is causing these troubles.
Microsoft has addressed the issue in a statement, saying, “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen.” They’ve even listed the affected titles, which include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
To mitigate further disruptions, Microsoft has applied a temporary compatibility hold on devices running these games, preventing them from installing the problematic Windows 11 update through the standard channels. They advise against trying to manually install version 24H2 until the issue is resolved.
On their part, Ubisoft has released a temporary hotfix, acknowledging that players “may experience some performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix. As soon as it is ready, we will let you know.” In the meantime, it might be a good excuse to dive into that gaming backlog you’ve been meaning to tackle.
