Virtual reality gamers have long celebrated Blade & Sorcery as a standout combat simulator, and since its monumental 1.0 update launched in June 2024, fans have had much to enjoy. However, creator Warpfrog isn’t resting on its laurels. They’ve already set their sights on their next gaming venture, promising it will be as “highly moddable” as their iconic physics-driven combat title.
Although Warpfrog is keeping its cards close to its chest regarding specific details, they did share with Road to VR that their next project will also be a VR experience. Players can expect the signature Warpfrog touch: immersive physics interactions and a strong focus on simulation. Moreover, the new game will embrace the same mod-friendly ethos as Blade & Sorcery.
Modding has become a hallmark of Blade & Sorcery’s appeal. Whether using manual methods or relying on Nexus Mod Manager, players can enhance their experience by adding subtle effects, such as extra sparks during weapon clashes, or by introducing entirely new, user-generated maps and weaponry.
During a chat with Meta in October, Warpfrog revealed plans for a new framework for their upcoming game. This is a direct outcome of the extensive development during Blade & Sorcery’s early access phase, which pushed the previous framework to its limits.
Warpfrog explained, “We need to overhaul some outdated code and structure something entirely new for a modern engine. This new framework is aimed to be more efficient. It’s exciting because, for the first time, we have a full team working comprehensively from start to finish on the game.”
Expectation is high for Warpfrog’s next project—and for good reason. What started as a solo endeavor led by developer ‘KospY’ has grown into a team of nearly 30 talented members.
The big 1.0 update in June, which introduced the ‘Crystal Hunt’ story mode, elevated Blade & Sorcery beyond a mere melee sandbox. It’s now a fully-fledged adventure game, featuring an expansive narrative, intricate upgrade systems, and a richly interconnected world.
Looking ahead, Warpfrog teases more excitement on the horizon. “This is where the fun begins… After gaining invaluable experience over the last five years, we can’t wait to unveil what’s in store. Your support has allowed us to embark on creating bigger and better games,” the studio shared in a recent Steam news update.
