I’m excited to share that we’re diving into a review of Loco Motive. In preparation, I had a chat with Adam from Robust Games to delve into the game and its development journey. Let’s get into it!
PS4Blog: Hi there! Thanks for joining us for this chat. Could you give our readers a little introduction to who you are and what you’re working on?
Adam Riches: Absolutely! I’m Adam Riches, the creative director and co-founder of Robust Games. We’re thrilled to have just launched our first game, Loco Motive!
PS4B: Speaking of Loco Motive, it’s now available on the Nintendo Switch. Can you tell us what players can expect?
Adam: We’ve worked hard to optimize the controller support to make sure it feels just right for the Nintendo Switch. Personally, I think playing in handheld mode offers the best experience!
PS4B: How long was the development process? I’m curious about the changes made from its initial game jam concept to the full-fledged point-and-click adventure it is today on Nintendo’s console.
Adam: We officially kicked off development in June 2021, and by late November 2024, we were ready to launch. That’s nearly three and a half years of work! One of the major changes was building out the story and adding more playable characters. The original game jam version was around an hour long, but we’ve now expanded it to a 10-12 hour experience. We kept a lot of the initial elements, like characters and puzzles, but we enhanced their depth and complexity.
PS4B: Any possibility of a physical release for the Nintendo Switch version of Loco Motive? Having something like an instruction booklet or an art book in there too would be amazing!
Adam: We’re definitely interested in doing a physical release and love the idea. That said, I can’t promise anything quite yet!
PS4B: Before we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to add?
Adam: A big thank you to everyone who’s played Loco Motive since it launched, left a review on Steam, or shared it with friends. As a small indie team, we deeply appreciate the word-of-mouth support; it means everything to us!
