It’s been a while, but the Savage Planet series is making a triumphant return! We’re diving into the second installment with the same team, same universe, but now under a new banner: Raccoon Logic.
Previously known as Typhoon Studios, we brought you Journey to the Savage Planet back in 2020, which you can still find on the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. Now, gear up for our latest sci-fi co-op escapade, Revenge of the Savage Planet, a hilariously thrilling survival journey where explorers quite literally entertain themselves to the brink of extinction. This exciting new chapter is ready to launch on PS5 and PS4 in May 2025.
In this next adventure, you’ll find yourself building and personalizing your habitat, venturing across alien terrains, meticulously scanning and cataloging everything, as you strive to uncover the mysteries of survival. The sequel expands into a more vibrant and expansive universe with even more planets to explore. Right from the get-go, you and your friends can team up in co-op mode, enjoying a newly introduced third-person perspective. You’ll sprint, leap, shoot, and collect through four dynamic planets, all while enhancing your skills and discovering hidden secrets.
Today, we’re pulling back the curtain on a fifth, undisclosed planet, inhabited by some rather unusual creatures. Our team members will also shed light on the design philosophy behind its creation.
But first, check out the video below to catch a glimpse!
In this newly unveiled world, exploration is crucial! Whether capturing odd creatures, taking refreshing swims in lakes, scaling towering mountains, or grinding along rails, there’s a secret base of excitement waiting for you. This fifth planet boasts an enclosed lair, distinct from the organic, open landscapes of the others, with the intent of keeping our world refreshingly unpredictable. Here’s what some of our team have to say about it:
### A World Inspired by Retro Arcades and 90s Entertainment
Studio Head Reid Schneider explains, “This final world is packed with fresh challenges, incredible verticality, and uniquely adapted creatures, addressing all the remaining questions the game presents.”
Lead Designer Steve Masters shares, “Our digital juxtaposition serves as a narrative tool, highlighting the mystery that lies beyond the natural beauty of our planets. Through this dark and foreboding lair created by Slappi, we extend his character’s story. And, of course, our game still features the crazy, quirky alien creatures you love.”
Audio Director Cameron Jarvis adds, “The sound design took an unexpected route too, contrasting our usual instrumentation with a distinctly digital feel. We started with a hybrid of pinball and game show vibes, but it evolved into something reminiscent of being inside a massive computer, complete with playful 8-bit sparkles.”
Art Director Erick Bilodeau notes, “Bringing in a fun entertainment value with robot toys was essential! We drew on a variety of retro arcade gaming influences to capture that nostalgic feel, embracing a hard-surfaced modeling style with retro-wave neon colors as a nod to 90s entertainment.”
### Local and Online Co-op
Revenge of the Savage Planet offers multiple ways to enjoy the game, from online co-op with cross-play options to the classic couch co-op with local split-screen. And for those who prefer a solo journey, a single-player mode awaits!
Producer Noemie L’Ecuyer explains, “Our methodical design fosters extraordinary interactions and outcomes for you to explore and experiment with, weaving this into the world, characters, and your overall experience. Every playthrough reveals something new, allowing you to experience it differently each time.”
Interested players can add Revenge of the Savage Planet to their wishlist on the PlayStation Store to get updates on launch week specials in May, including an in-game trash panda suit and initial discounts. Stay tuned for details on pre-orders, purchasing options, and other launch info.
