Just last week, Bungie released the final act of Destiny 2’s Revenant, the second episode following The Final Shape. In about a month, players can look forward to the third episode, Heresy, which is likely to set the stage for a new expansion, Codename: Frontiers, that might take players beyond the Sol System. While many details about these future updates remain under wraps, Bungie has given fans a peek into significant changes coming this year with the Festival of the Lost event.
Festival of the Lost is Destiny 2’s beloved Halloween celebration, and over the years, it’s evolved from the Infinite Forest to Haunted Lost Sectors. While it’s uncertain if there will be further tweaks to this year’s festivities, Bungie has confirmed a departure from previous practices. Historically, fans voted between two armor set themes for the Festival of the Lost, with only the winning set being added to the game. Now, all sets will eventually be available, regardless of the vote outcome.
For a long time, Destiny 2 players debated whether it was worth voting for a particular set since the losing options never made it into the game. Even though these armor sets are purely cosmetic, some fans were disappointed when their preferred designs didn’t win. With the upcoming changes in Destiny 2’s Frontiers, players will eventually have access to all voted sets. The winners will debut with the Festival of the Lost, while the others will follow later on.
Bungie hasn’t specified exact release dates for these additional sets but has promised that last year’s wizard-themed losing set will become available during Episode Heresy. This move can’t go unnoticed, as Festival of the Lost armor often ranks among the game’s best, and the wizard-themed designs align well with Heresy’s atmosphere.
This year’s community poll offers two captivating choices: Slasher or Specter armor sets, styled respectively like Jason from Friday the 13th, Ghostface from Scream, a Scarecrow-inspired set, Babadook, La Llorona, and Slenderman. With inspirations drawn from such renowned horror figures, players are in for a treat, especially knowing that both sets will eventually be added to the game.
Though on the surface it seems minor, Bungie’s decision to release all armor sets reflects its responsiveness to player feedback, particularly important given the community’s recent disenchantment during Revenant. While not revolutionary, this step might help Bungie regain player trust, setting the stage for the impending Frontiers expansion. As Heresy approaches, Bungie aims to ensure a smooth launch, hoping to rekindle fan excitement ahead of their major release in June.
