Recently, there have been increasing reports of GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs, alongside the Chinese version, the RTX 5090D, becoming unresponsive—often referred to as “bricked.” As the news gained traction over the past few days, affected users have been scrambling to find a fix. Those attempts have largely met with frustration as few solutions seem to work reliably.
While some individuals have claimed success using unconventional methods, most users experiencing this issue have not been so fortunate. Given the widespread nature of these complaints, NVIDIA has been prompted to take action. In a statement to PC Gamer, a representative from NVIDIA indicated,
“We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.”
That’s the full extent of their official communication so far, but it shows that NVIDIA is now aware of the problem and taking it seriously. For those not familiar with what’s going on, this issue has been causing RTX 5090 and 5090D cards to fail in powering up displays, resulting in black screens whenever the drivers are updated.
This problem appears consistently in a large number of cases right after users install the latest NVIDIA driver. Even rolling back to previous driver versions hasn’t been a guaranteed fix, leaving GPUs unrecognized by the system. Some users have even attempted BIOS resets, but these efforts have often proven futile, as the cards still fail to appear in both the Device Manager and the BIOS settings.
The exact cause is still a mystery, though some suspect it might be tied to architectural or driver compatibility issues rather than a defect in the hardware itself. Until NVIDIA provides more insight, the gaming community will have to wait patiently for a permanent solution to these troublesome RTX 5090 and 5090D issues.
