This past Sunday, Marvel took advantage of the Super Bowl spotlight to premiere a fresh look at the upcoming “Thunderbolts” movie by releasing a new trailer. With the film set to land in theaters in just a few months, there’s been a lot of speculation and curiosity hovering around its storyline. Back in September, we got a glimpse of a teaser, but that only fueled our intrigue rather than satisfying it. Now, even though the latest trailer is shedding a bit more light on the plot, it hasn’t given away too much. One of the major highlights is a peek at Sentry, a character portrayed by Lewis Pullman. You might recall seeing him briefly in the previous teaser as “Bob,” which was clearly a strategic move to mislead viewers.
Over on YouTube, you can catch this trailer. It doesn’t reveal much of Sentry in action—just a few shots of him showcasing his powers against a crew of anti-heroes and some unsuspecting civilians. The footage definitely hints at his presence, although there’s a chance Marvel might be planning another surprise, potentially introducing a completely different adversary for the team to battle. Considering that in the original comics, Sentry is more of a hero with his own nemesis, the Void, the idea of incorporating this villain doesn’t seem too far-fetched. Plus, with a couple of actors whose roles haven’t been officially disclosed yet, there’s a lot of room for speculation.
The official synopsis gives us a little more context: “Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes—Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and John Walker (Wyatt Russell). After getting caught in a dangerous trap orchestrated by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), these disillusioned outcasts are sent on a perilous mission that forces them to confront their darkest secrets. Will they manage to find redemption and unite, or will they fall apart as chaos closes in?”
Although details are still sparse, all will be revealed when “Thunderbolts” hits theaters on May 2. It’s safe to say anticipation is building as we edge closer to finding out what Marvel has in store for us this time.
