AMD has set the record straight regarding speculation about a new Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU with 32 GB of memory.
In some recent buzz, there were whispers from Chiphell suggesting a 32 GB version of the RX 9070 XT was on the horizon this year, distinctively part of the ‘Gaming’ series rather than the PRO lineup. However, AMD’s own Frank Azor has quickly quashed these rumors. He’s directly addressed these claims on Techpowerup’s X post to clarify the situation for eager tech enthusiasts:
“No, the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB capacity,” Azor confirmed, putting an end to discussions about a potential high-memory variant.
The RX 9070 XT is instead set to be equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, which, given its design purpose and market position, aligns with expectations. Even if there were to be a 32 GB model, its impact on gaming performance would likely be negligible. Initially, the rumor mill had suggested this large memory allocation was intended for AI-related tasks with possible gaming capabilities.
So far, a 32 GB gaming GPU from AMD has yet to hit the market. Offering such capacity in an upper-mid-range GPU might not be practical, as current technology wouldn’t capitalize on that amount of VRAM to any significant advantage. With the RX 9070 XT acting as the supposed flagship of the RDNA 4 series, a leap beyond 16 GB seems unlikely.
The RX 9070 and other Navi 44-based GPUs are anticipated to follow with lower specs and resulting performance. Official details on the RX 9000 series will be unveiled on February 28, giving us a thorough look at specifications, pricing, and AMD’s performance predictions.
Fans won’t have to wait long after that—the retail launch is set for early March. This timeline interestingly coincides with NVIDIA’s anticipated release of their GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. Frank Azor hinted earlier that AMD’s 70-class GPUs aim to rival NVIDIA’s own 70-class offerings. Enthusiasts should be excited to see how the RX 9070 XT or RX 9070 measures up against the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 5070.
