Logitech is revamping its Powerplay series of wireless charging accessories with a much-needed upgrade: the Powerplay 2 mouse pad. This new version is not just more budget-friendly but also sleeker compared to the original pad released in 2017. Importantly, it remains compatible with Logitech’s existing Powerplay tech. Originally priced at $119.99, the first Powerplay has seen a price drop, with the new iteration launching at $99 on March 11.
In the world of gaming peripherals, the Powerplay system stands out for its unique offering. Imagine using any of Logitech’s wireless mice without needing to recharge them. The magic lies in a small puck inserted into the mouse’s base, drawing continuous power from the pad. The puck included with Powerplay 2 works seamlessly with ten different Logitech gaming mice and adds negligible weight. Personally, I’ve been using the G502 X Plus with the original Powerplay since 2022, and I haven’t charged it once.
Visually, the new Powerplay pad doesn’t stray far from its predecessor’s design. It’s slightly smaller, with dimensions of 344 x 284 mm compared to the earlier 321 x 344. Additionally, it boasts a slimmer profile at just 1.3 mm off the desk. An exciting update is the charging area, which is now 15% larger. The Powerplay 2 also embraces modern connectivity with a USB-C port, moving away from the micro-USB used in the original.
Though the Powerplay 2 might seem like a subtle upgrade, it’s reassuring to see Logitech investing in this distinctive accessory. Unlike Razer’s short-lived Hyperflux mouse from 2018, the continued support for Powerplay is a welcome decision for gamers who appreciate unique technology.
