Apple’s gearing up for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which they’ve set to launch on June 9th. Among the anticipated highlights is the reveal of Vision Pro’s latest operating system update, visionOS 3.
Spanning from June 9th to the 13th, this year’s conference will once again be held online. However, the centerpiece is undoubtedly the June 9th keynote livestream, which traditionally inundates us with all things software from Apple’s universe.
The specifics are still under wraps, as Apple hasn’t spilled the details on what exactly they’ll showcase at WWDC25. But if history is any indicator, we can expect major software overhauls across their platforms—think iOS, macOS, watchOS, and of course, visionOS—with early test runs available for developers and the full rollout slated for the fall.
Earlier this month, a report from Bloomberg suggested that visionOS 3 will be quite the “feature-packed release.” Following in the footsteps of visionOS 2, debuted at WWDC24, it’s reasonable to assume there’ll be a bunch of new productivity tools. Moreover, there’s buzz around a possible announcement regarding a partnership with Sony, aimed to integrate PSVR 2 controller support with Vision Pro.
It’s interesting to note that Apple’s $3,500 mixed reality headset was released without motion controllers. This decision has pushed developers to either enhance existing XR apps to leverage Vision Pro’s hand and eye-tracking features or to embark on creating entirely new applications from scratch.
Continuing its tradition, WWDC25 will be accessible to developers and students for free. For those who fancy attending in person, Apple is also holding a special gathering on June 9th at their Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino. This exclusive event offers a chance to connect with Apple experts and engage in unique activities, but keep in mind that space is limited. For those interested, be sure to find out how to apply.
