Indie XR developer, The Binary Mill, has exciting news for VR enthusiasts. Their much-anticipated space mining adventure, Into Black (2024), is soon breaking free from its Quest-only confines to land on PSVR 2, bringing a fresh wave of Deep Rock Galactic-esque action to a new audience.
Originally launched on Quest in October, this game invites players – whether solo adventurers or part of a four-player co-op team – to dive into resource scavenging, tool upgrading, and ship repairing. Over twenty levels spread across various distinct biomes challenge players to gather enough materials to escape a perilous alien planet while battling all sorts of creatures that stand in their way.
Adding more excitement, the PSVR 2 version introduces the thrilling ‘Singularity’ PvPvE mode. Here, you’ll compete with up to 11 other players in a dynamic online setting. The Binary Mill describes it as a tense experience where forging uneasy alliances is key. As you navigate through a shrinking maze, the pressure mounts to collect as much loot as possible. But beware – greed might just be your downfall in this treacherous race to survive.
Beyond new game modes, Into Black is getting a PSVR 2 facelift, boasting revamped environments with spectacular lighting upgrades, including dynamic shadows, HDR support, and eye-tracked foveated rendering. The PS Sense adaptive triggers and the PSVR 2’s headset rumble will offer more immersive haptic feedback, enhancing the interactivity and sensory experience.
There’s still no confirmation on whether PSVR 2 players will be able to cross-play with Quest users, but inquiries have been made to the studio for clarification. While we eagerly await a full trailer showcasing these advancements, the devs have teased us with a sneak peek in the form of images and two engaging gifs.
Though they’ve kept the exact release date under wraps, The Binary Mill assures us the game’s debut is imminent.
