ILM and Lucasfilm are stirring up excitement with the announcement of their latest project, a new immersive Star Wars game titled “Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset.”
This upcoming game will be available exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, plunging players into the vibrant Star Wars universe during the same era as the Han Solo prequel, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” from 2018.
Although details are still trickling out, there’s a buzz about the inclusion of exciting podracing elements. ILM has teased that players will get to meet the podracer Volo Bolus and team up with none other than the infamous Sebulba, promising an adrenaline-charged, engine-roaring mixed reality adventure.
The use of the term ‘Playset’ suggests we might encounter a variety of mixed reality mini-games, although ILM remains tight-lipped about specifics beyond their initial teaser.
Typically, ILM tends to roll out details slowly and deliberately, often focusing on particular characters and game features leading up to the official release. At this stage, we’re still waiting for a release date or a glimpse of the trailer.
However, anticipation is building, with more revelations expected soon. Meta has confirmed that fans attending the ‘Star Wars Celebration 2025′ in Tokyo, Japan, from April 18-20, will have the chance to experience the game firsthand. Over a dozen demo stations will be set up, not only showcasing this new entry but also offering demos of the studio’s previous VR sensations, “Vader Immortal” and “Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.”
So, why the focus on mixed reality? According to Jose Perez III, Director of Star Wars: Beyond Victory, this technology offers groundbreaking levels of immersion, transporting the iconic Star Wars galaxy right into players’ living rooms in a manner that’s unprecedented.
Moreover, it’s worth noting that Meta’s involvement likely provides significant financial backing for the project, just as it has supported ILM’s Star Wars VR endeavors in the past.
