As the PlayStation 5 solidifies its position as the go-to console for PlayStation enthusiasts, we’re seeing a natural decline in support for its predecessor, the PS4. This transition also affects games like the well-loved MMORPG, which is phasing out its older console versions but isn’t leaving players in the lurch. Gamers can seamlessly upgrade to the latest generation without any extra cost.
## Black Desert Online for PS4 is Shutting Down
Pearl Abyss has declared the upcoming shutdown of Black Desert Online on PS4 and Xbox One. Fans of this immersive MMORPG have a limited time left to enjoy the game on these platforms before it makes a full leap to next-gen. The curtain falls on the PS4 and Xbox One editions during maintenance scheduled for June 26. Don’t worry, though—players can switch over to the newer version at no charge, with all their account details and previous purchases making the journey with them.
Brian Choi, Black Desert Console Live Service Manager, reassures players about the transition to next-gen consoles, saying, “We’ve got your game data covered. Once you decide to move up to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series, all your Black Desert entitlements will be fully intact. We get that some of you might find this news a bit of a bummer. Black Desert has consistently evolved to enhance the adventurer’s experience.”
Choi elaborates, “Despite our dedicated efforts to keep optimizing for older consoles, we’ve hit a wall where hardware constraints are a barrier to delivering the latest content smoothly. So, after thoroughly weighing our options, we’ve concluded that focusing our energies on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions will allow us to offer a more stable and enhanced service.”
Back when Black Desert Online launched in the U.S. in 2016, it received a mixed reception. Metacritic’s review aggregation notes an average score of 73 based on 35 critic reviews. The game made its way to PS4 and Xbox One in 2019, and now it’s time for the next chapter.
