Alright, it’s March 28 as I sit down to pen this, so no fear of being caught off guard by a pop-up event like a 2AM Geoff Keighley showcase coinciding with a Nintendo Direct. But here we are with NetEase stirring the pot once again, giving me pause.
Turns out, they’ve announced—unless they’re pulling a fast one on us, which seems less likely than ever—that in celebration of April Fools’ Day, a Venom twerk emote is making its way to Marvel Rivals next week. Yep, you heard right. You can understand why I’m typing this with my fingers firmly crossed, can’t you?
This so-called Symbiote Boogie emote will supposedly be available as an in-game reward from April 1st at 1AM GMT/8PM ET (for those in North America, March 31) until April 4th at 1AM GMT, which is 8PM ET on April 3. The announcement dropped on Twitter and also on the official Marvel Rivals Discord server, just in case you missed it.
They teased us with, “April Fools is just around the corner, Rivals – and the smoothest symbiote in the Multiverse is ready to celebrate,” courtesy of NetEase. “That’s right, it’s not a joke—complete Galacta’s Cosmic Adventure and gather all 24 rewards on your way to unlocking the Symbiote Boogie emote! Because what screams ‘cosmic chaos’ louder than your hero showing off some slimy dance moves on the battlefield?”
Okay, let’s level here. This has to be legit, right? They’ve dropped this bombshell way before the big day on April 1. You really can’t tease something with rollout times around the world’s midnight moments and then retract with a “just kidding!” after the fact, right? That would be like announcing an April Fools’ jest months ahead, which would be absurd, yet admittedly kind of hilarious.
But honestly, we’ve glimpsed this emote long before April 1—Venom’s cheeks are quite a spectacle, resembling chunky licorice as he does his dance. Of course, his tongue’s wagging, but that’s just Venom being Venom. One Rivals Discord member quipped, “Venom cake is huge now, Venom mains gonna spam that emote every chance they get,” which sums it up well.
Are you hoping against all odds that this Venom twerk emote isn’t just an elaborate joke? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
