As we gear up for the release of Days Gone Remastered on the PlayStation 5, there’s plenty to buzz about regarding the new and improved accessibility features. Building on the groundwork laid by the original 2019 release, our focus has been to make the gaming journey along the Broken Road even more accessible and personal for you, beginning April 25th. So, let’s jump into what’s new!
### Visual Features
Subtitle customization has been given a significant upgrade. In Days Gone, you can now personalize subtitles like never before with 11 different subtitle colors. This not only applies to the text itself but also to the speaker’s name. Feel free to mix and match! Furthermore, you can now choose from various subtitle backgrounds including options like transparent, darkened, light, and black—vastly improving visibility and readability.
A major highlight of Days Gone Remastered is the highly adaptable High Contrast Mode. Paired with the existing High Contrast HUD, it greatly simplifies navigation and boosts visibility. Two preset options are available—Primary and Secondary—to get you started quickly, but customization doesn’t end there. You can adjust the hero, friendly NPC, enemies, and interactable item colors with the same diverse palette available for subtitles. These enhancements are designed to make gameplay visibility better for everyone.
To make life easier, these features along with other popular settings can be adjusted on the new Initial Setup screen, even before diving into the game. Want to tweak things further? Just head to the Accessibility tab in the Options menu, which now includes real-time previews so you can see adjustments on the fly without stepping into the game.
### Audio Features
The audio experience in Days Gone Remastered has received some fantastic updates too, debuting with UI Narration and Collectible Audio Cues.
UI Narration reads out vital information on the user interface, guiding you through menu choices and in-game options like Inventory, Skills, and Storylines. By default, this feature is turned on to aid initial navigation, but you can easily switch it off from the get-go screen if you prefer.
Collectible Audio Cues are another neat addition. With 240 collectibles tucked away across the vast Pacific Northwest setting, these sound alerts make finding these items much easier. Whether you’re engrossed in the main storyline or just wandering the open world, the cues will help locate elusive collectibles. Plus, as you get closer, your DualSense controller will mimic these sound alerts with increased haptic feedback—talk about immersion!
### Gameplay Features
Tackling hordes of Freakers, navigating with your Drifter bike, and sneaking past ambush camps call for greater accessibility. Enter Customized Controls! Offering the freedom to tailor your playstyle, these are fully remappable using the DualSense controller and work seamlessly with the PlayStation Access controller.
Days Gone Remastered also introduces Game Speed modulations. From 100% to a more manageable 75%, 50%, or even 25%, you can adjust the game pace to your preference, making it perfect for those tense moments against Freaker hordes. And with the new Horde Assault mode, enhancing this experience was a must.
Other noteworthy additions include Recenter Camera on Attack, haptic vibration intensity adjusters, Field of View adjustments, and a Persistent Center Dot. We’ve also improved the auto-complete QTE feature. Previously exclusive to Easy difficulty, it’s now usable on any difficulty setting from Easy to Survival II.
Most of these fresh features will also feature in the PC version.*
At Bend Studio, our aim is to craft experiences that make a lasting impression. We’re driven by the idea that every player, regardless of ability, should share in the excitement of our games. We truly hope you savor this definitive version of our expansive open-world adventure. Get ready to rev up your Drifter bike and dive into all that Days Gone Remastered offers on April 25, 2025.
*Please note: Updating to a version higher than Build ID 10034136 through Patch 1.08 is necessary. UI Narration doesn’t support the Broken Road DLC on PC. Haptic feedback and customized control features require a compatible controller. The full range of controller capabilities with the DualSense requires a wired connection.
