Current goal: Face Godzilla, and survive!
I’m in a bit of a love-hate relationship with Fortnite these days. It feels like a far cry from the game it was during its brilliant first year. Back then, matches were chaotic mixes of seasoned players and newcomers, creating an unpredictable and thrilling atmosphere. Today, though, that electrifying experience seems lost. Now, you’re more likely to end up battling bots that offer minimal challenge, making them easy targets. The mysterious, open-ended story that once fascinated players has given way to straightforward MMORPG-style quests and characters that spill out typical gaming lore. Each week it seems, more characters from well-known franchises are added to the shop, chipping away at Fortnite’s unique identity and turning it into something akin to a corporate mashup like Ready Player One.
Despite this, the allure of Fortnite hasn’t completely faded for me. It remains a game where I can truly feel the landscape beneath my virtual feet. The sheer joy of sprinting, sliding, leaping, and climbing across its vibrant map is hard to resist. After a tough day, I find myself logging on, breezing through the daily quests to snag some quick XP. It’s a simple pleasure that I occasionally get lost in. Additionally, Fortnite’s grand spectacles continue to captivate me, especially when it pulls off something extraordinary that few other games can match. Right now is one of those times. With Godzilla, the mighty king of monsters, potentially showing up in matches, there’s a palpable thrill. I caught a video of someone playing as Godzilla, and it looked absolutely stunning. The scale and power felt just right. This weekend, I think I’ll be diving deeper into Fortnite, eager to experience the thrill of feeling utterly small and vulnerable, trying to survive against something truly monumental. So, if you’re wandering in Fortnite this weekend and turn into Godzilla, and you happen to spot me scampering below like a tiny speck, please, spare me. I promise, I come in peace! — Carolyn Petit
