While there’s no Cyberpunk 2077 movie in the pipeline just yet, there’s a bit of a buzz around the idea, especially with Idris Elba already expressing interest in the project.
In recent times, Hollywood seems to be latching onto the trend of turning video games into movies and TV series. We’re witnessing a surge in these adaptations, and Cyberpunk 2077 is no exception, especially with its anime series, Edgerunners, already making waves. However, a live-action version is something we’ve yet to see, even though it’s not necessarily something fans have been clamoring for. Despite this, it seems a TV series adaptation is underway. With the news of this project swirling around, both Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba are currently out and about promoting their roles in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie. Interestingly, in a recent chat with Screen Rant, Elba expressed his thoughts on the idea of Cyberpunk transforming into a live-action film and was surprisingly open to the prospect.
“I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa,'” Elba remarked enthusiastically. “So, let’s speak that into existence.” It’s true that the dynamics between their characters are quite distinct, with Elba’s character, Johnny Silverhand, primarily interacting through the eyes of the player character, V. Nonetheless, it’s entertaining to consider how the two could feasibly come together on screen.
Details about the forthcoming TV series are scarce at this point, which leaves open the possibility that Elba’s wishes might be granted, albeit on the small screen rather than in theaters. Set within the same universe as the game, it remains uncertain if any familiar characters from Cyberpunk 2077 will make appearances in the series. One thing’s for sure, though—if Elba and Reeves join forces again, their talent will undoubtedly shine!
