Eager to dive back into Resident Evil 6 on your modern console? Maybe not, but it seems you might have the chance anyway.
Let’s be honest, Resident Evil 6 isn’t exactly the crown jewel of the celebrated survival horror franchise. The series veered into action territory by then, straying a bit too far from its roots. Despite its mixed reception, there’s always a dedicated group of Resident Evil enthusiasts who embrace every installment. For those hoping to revisit the game on the Xbox Series X or S, it looks like your wish could come true. Word on the street, as picked up by VGC, is that the game’s received a fresh rating on the ESRB’s website for the Xbox Series lineup, which naturally includes both the X and S consoles.
Now, the rating itself doesn’t spill any new beans; it simply reiterates the Mature 17+ rating criteria, even humorously pointing out that players will encounter the F-bomb in the game. The noteworthy aspect here is its mention of the Xbox Series consoles. Originally launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2012, the game later got Xbox One and PS4 ports in 2016, along with versions of 4 and 5, sporting graphical enhancements and all available DLC. In 2019, it made its way to the Nintendo Switch as well. Although the current ESRB update doesn’t reference a PS5 release, one would reasonably expect it, and it would be strange to get a version of 6 without following up with a similar treatment for 5.
Some fans might feel a touch of disappointment, perceiving this as yet another remaster rather than a full-blown remake like other titles in the series have enjoyed. But what can you do? We’ll have to sit tight and see if Capcom decides to make any official announcements, should there be any news in the pipeline.
