From Software recently shared some exciting news: Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies globally since its 2022 release. This impressive milestone places it alongside legendary titles like Borderlands 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Diablo 3.
Elden Ring made its debut on February 25, 2022, and later expanded its universe with the major DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, on June 21. Since its launch, a whopping 30 million adventurers on PC and console have journeyed through The Lands Between. It’s particularly remarkable given the game’s notorious difficulty—players knew the challenge and embraced it anyway!
Critics and fans alike have showered Elden Ring with praise. The base game and its DLC have been well-received, and the transition from the Dark Souls series to an open-world format struck a chord with gamers. While maintaining the signature difficulty of Dark Souls, Elden Ring did see some adjustments to balance the gameplay and ease the challenge.
What From Software plans to do after hitting the 30 million mark is still under wraps, but the studio is clearly aware of its success. Elden Ring Nightreign, a spin-off co-op game, is set to launch soon, utilizing much of the original game’s world with a fresh twist. It wouldn’t be surprising if the company continues to explore and expand within this genre.
