Gaijin Entertainment, the creators behind the popular War Thunder game from 2013, have some exciting news for VR enthusiasts. Their much-anticipated aerial combat game, Aces of Thunder, is set to arrive on PSVR 2 and PC VR systems, offering an exhilarating experience later this year.
First announced in 2023, Aces of Thunder was initially expected to soar onto the scene by the end of 2024. Gamers have been eagerly waiting for this title, promising to showcase some of the most iconic aircraft from both World War eras on platforms like SteamVR and PSVR 2.
So far, Gaijin has unveiled an impressive lineup of planes not only from World War II but now also from World War I. This expanded collection invites players to pilot legendary aircraft, steeped in history.
The studio has shared that players can get behind the controls of renowned fighters such as the Fokker Dr.I, famously flown by the Red Baron, and the SPAD S.XIII, a favorite of René Fonck, one of the Allies’ most celebrated aces. Each aircraft is set to feature meticulously detailed cockpits, weapons that mirror their historical counterparts, and flight dynamics that promise an authentic, immersive experience.
Adding to this thrilling mix are the warbirds from WWII: the agile American P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra, Germany’s formidable Bf 109 and Fw 190, the resilient Soviet IL-2, the iconic British Spitfire, and Japan’s nimble A6M3 Zero. It’s a roster that aims to cater to all aviation enthusiasts.
Although we don’t have a definite release date for Aces of Thunder yet, Gaijin has revealed to Road to VR that they are now aiming for a launch in 2025. Until then, interested pilots can add the game to their wishlists on Steam and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
As for the price tag, that’s still under wraps. We’re staying vigilant for any new updates about Aces of Thunder and will keep you posted. Keep an eye on the horizon for this airborne adventure!
