This past week has seen a series of intriguing leaks about the final design of the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Things reached a new peak yesterday when Dbrand unexpectedly released a full 3D render of the console, cleverly integrating it with a version of their Killswitch carrying case. In a conversation with The Verge, Dbrand’s CEO, Adam Ijaz, explained that their render is based on actual dimensions from a 3D scan of the Switch 2, revealing measurements of approximately 270mm in width with Joy-Cons attached, shrinking to 200mm without them, 116mm in height, and a thickness of 14mm.
This enticing glimpse into the Switch 2 unveils a device with a significantly larger 8-inch display compared to previous versions—the Switch OLED’s 7.2-inch and the original Switch’s 6.2-inch. It also introduces an additional “C” button on the right Joy-Con, possibly for capturing screenshots or video. Other notable features include magnetically detachable Joy-Cons with enhanced curves, dual USB-C ports at both the top and bottom, and a robust U-shaped kickstand reminiscent of the improved stand seen on the Switch OLED model.
As we anticipate a potential Q1 2025 launch, all signs point towards a Switch 2 that brings considerable evolution from its predecessor, the Switch OLED. Interestingly, despite many leaks suggesting otherwise, it appears the new screen might not be OLED. Instead, it could sport an 8-inch 1080p IPS LCD that’s expected to be of higher quality than the Switch’s regular LCD.
When it comes to Dbrand’s Killswitch design for the Switch 2, it’s apparent that the typical features of Killswitch cases, such as a more robust kickstand or complete body enclosures, have been adjusted to accommodate the detachable Joy-Cons. Now, the case is innovatively held together by a striking teal bungee cord. Known for quality in phone and handheld cases, Dbrand’s final offering is set to impress.
Those eager for a straightforward view of the Nintendo Switch 2 haven’t been left entirely in the dark. Dbrand’s specifications align closely with a 3D-printed mock-up shared by the YouTube channel SwitchUp earlier this week, offering a hint of what the complete unit’s aesthetics and ergonomics might be.
The substantial leak from Dbrand suggests an announcement from Nintendo could be right around the corner, with a potential release date reveal for the Switch 2. Initially, there were indications of a launch before the end of 2024, but with Nintendo’s March 2025 deadline for further details now drawing nearer, anticipation is building. Companies like Dbrand are already preparing, boosting both production and buzz for what promises to be Nintendo’s next remarkable addition to the hybrid console market.
