If you ever felt let down by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for not allowing you to step into the shoes of a Jarl, Viking Dynasty might be just what you need. This upcoming title by Toplitz Productions gives you the opportunity to lead and build a thriving Viking settlement. Your skills in hunting, exploring, and ruling will be crucial to your village’s survival.
Slated for release next year, Viking Dynasty seems to tone down the violent elements of Viking life, but it promises no less of a challenge. Following titles like Sengoku Dynasty, Medieval Dynasty, and Wild West Dynasty, the game tasks you with setting up a Viking village, assuming the role of Jarl, and even raising a family.
Despite their tough image, Vikings require basic necessities like food and shelter. Forgetting your responsibilities or mismanaging tasks could lead to disgruntled, cold, and hungry settlers—definitely not a recipe for happy villagers.
You’ll start off as a Viking settler stranded on a rugged archipelago, literally from the ground up. Although your ship is a wreck, Viking Dynasty offers you the chance to construct a new one. With a new vessel, you can sail again—whether you’re hunting for treasure, recruiting new villagers, or just adventuring for fun.
Combat seems to be focused on hunting wildlife, so don’t expect Viking Dynasty to echo the battle-heavy style of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. However, Toplitz assures players the vast world is immersive and genuinely reflects Norse culture, rather than coming off as just another generic open world. Judging by the teaser trailer, the game’s environment indeed appears breathtaking.
Though it sounds promising, a bit of patience is required before you can dive into this Norse adventure. Viking Dynasty is aiming for a late 2025 release in Steam Early Access. If past patterns hold true, like with Vampire Dynasty, we might see a demo sooner.
