In the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, one of the early objectives is to capture the elusive dapperwings. These flying creatures are part of a side quest named “Samin’s Research Report,” a mission that awaits you once you join the research team stationed at the Windward Plains base camp. This task acts as a sequel to the earlier “Dareel’s Research Report,” where the goal was to snag tracktail lizards.
Let’s dive into the details. Our guide is here to point you in the right direction for tracking down those dapperwings and ensuring you successfully tick off this quest.
### Tracking Down Dapperwing Habitats
To begin your search, set your sights on the lush expanse of the Scarlet Forest. Begin your journey around the Bower of the Great Tree in Area 7, which hosts a pop-up camp. As you explore, move over to Area 6. Here, you’ll likely stumble upon three prime spots bustling with dapperwings.
These creatures, often found in flocks, have a knack for perching on fallen trees and branches. They’re most active during the day, and their song is your best clue—bearing a striking resemblance to regular bird calls. If you fancy more tips, wander east from the spot marked “6” on your map. Keep your eyes peeled for the feathered fellows clinging to trees.
### Mastering Dapperwing Capture
Spotted a dapperwing? Great! Now it’s time to capture it. Equip your capture net either from the item bar or your Essential Items radial menu. If you need a bit of elevation to reach them, hop on your Seikret, which allows you to cast your net from a higher vantage point.
Approach the dapperwings with caution to avoid startling them. Unlike tracktail lizards that scuttle on the ground, these aerial critters are higher up, so getting physically close isn’t typically a problem. Use the rectangle reticle; edge towards the dapperwing until it shifts to a yellow-orange hue, then make your move.
For successful capture, remember to press L2/LT, instead of the usual square/X.
Completing “Samin’s Research Report” nets you a tidy package of ten blue mushrooms, five units of honey, 50 guild points, and a nice boost to your hunter rank and palico level. Happy hunting!
