For the last three weeks, Nintendo Switch Online has added a new Game Boy title to its library, and this time it’s all about the apes.
Following in the footsteps of the past two weeks, Donkey Kong Land III has now joined the Game Boy lineup. Originally released in 1997, this game is the third in a unique series of Game Boy versions inspired by the popular Donkey Kong Country franchise. In Land III, players join Dixie and Kiddy Kong as they embark on an adventure to discover the “Lost World,” hoping to beat K. Rool, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong to the punch.
What’s interesting about Land III is that it’s one of the rare instances where Donkey Kong himself isn’t a playable character, nor is he the one needing rescue in his own series. This installment takes a bit of a different path compared to its SNES Country 3 counterpart, veering more from the script than the earlier adaptations.
For those accessing the game in Japan, they’ll be getting a special treat. The app there includes the 2000 Game Boy Color reissue, which was a regional exclusive, rather than the original Game Boy version.
