Greetings, Xbox enthusiasts! We’re thrilled to share that our latest game, Overthrown, is set to hit Xbox Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S and PC on December 5, and hey, it’ll also be accessible through Game Pass. For those of you who are meeting Overthrown for the first time, it’s a city-building game that doesn’t just stick to the basics. It’s all about embracing chaos while allowing you to flex your superhero muscles like an anime protagonist, and yes, you can dive into this adventure with up to five friends. Sure, you’ll need to construct a city, protect it from mutant threats and bandit invasions, and manage everything effectively. But today, I’m here to offer you some tips to enhance your co-op experience.
Let’s set the scene with a little backstory. Picture this: an ancient soul-stealing crown brimming with magical powers gives you the ability to lift virtually anything in your path. Massive trees? You’ve got this. Monster lairs? Piece of cake. How about an entire sawmill? Easy! With these powers, you can rush through the forest, absorbing trees as you go. Your only limit is your imagination! You also possess lightning-fast agility, a legendary throwing arm, and a spin move so fierce it’ll send you spiraling into the sky like a helicopter. Now visualize harnessing this level of power alongside five of your friends. Ready for some outrageous fun?
To get the ball rolling, here are some handy tips for making the most of your co-op sessions.
One Crown to Rule Them All
When diving into co-op gameplay with your friends, keep an eye out for the Crown on the map, as it’s up for grabs. Everyone gains Crown powers, but the individual who dons it earns the maximum crown charge, letting them unleash powerful moves faster. While teamwork is the goal, striving to excel together is always a great strategy, right? There might come a moment when the mighty Crown is lost or swiped, sparking a dash of friendly competition. Enemies like the Tuskar or Outlaw may snatch it, requiring you and your pals to reclaim it. Whoever recovers the Crown gains an extra boost. Remember, Overthrown isn’t about PvP, so don’t even think about sabotaging your friends for the Crown!
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
As you and your friends establish more workstations in your city, you’ll notice an influx of new citizens. By assigning teammates to different areas and districts, you can accelerate the growth of your settlement right from the start. Not everyone is fond of every job type, but that’s perfectly okay! Perhaps you relishes in the art of construction while your friend lives for combat. Divvying up tasks has never been easier.
Experiment
Finally, my top suggestion: get out there and experiment. When we began developing Overthrown, it was built on the foundation of player curiosity. We want you to ask yourself and your buddies, “Can we do this?” and “What happens if we try that?” The answer? "Yes, you absolutely can," and "Go ahead, give it a shot!" We’re designing the game with maximum interactivity so you can enjoy surprise moments, silly antics, and just plain fun. After all, isn’t that what playing with friends is all about?
We hope the prospect of Overthrown excites you and that you’re eager to jump in, either alone or with your squad. We’re crafting Overthrown with community feedback and would love to have you along for the journey. Get ready to embark on your adventure on December 5 as Overthrown launches on Xbox Game Preview and Game Pass for Xbox consoles and PC.
Note: The original announcement listed the launch date as December 10—this has been corrected to December 5.
