Indie game developer X82 is gearing up to release an innovative parkour game next month, which brings a delightful mix of unique movement styles and aims to make the Quest’s hand-tracking rival traditional controller-based navigation.
Meet FastHands, a multiplayer adventure offering endless procedurally generated levels that challenge you to run, jump, climb, and glide through intricate obstacle courses peppered with moving traps, speed boosts, and daunting jumps that seem almost impossible.
While you can play comfortably seated with a controller, the game truly shines with its advanced hand-tracking feature. This encourages you to stand up and physically pump your arms to move forward, glide through the air like a superhero, and even scuttle swiftly up walls using ‘spider hands’ that aid you in attacking vertical surfaces at an unexpectedly brisk pace.
Check out the trailer below for a glimpse of how hand-tracking is woven into the FastHands experience:
No need to worry about overexertion, like in the 2018 release Sprint Vector, as the game only demands about eight inches of arm movement to pick up speed.
According to an update from X82 covered by Road to VR: “It’s not designed to be highly strenuous since maintaining a moderate pace suffices, but it enhances the sensation of running while capitalizing on hand-tracking. Plus, there’s an option to play in seated/controller mode with simple analogue stick controls.”
Despite its core parkour focus, FastHands also weaves in some shooting elements. Players can engage targets, or even other gamers, using a trusty slingshot by pulling back with one hand and aiming with the other—controllers are optional for this feature.
This intriguing mix of hand-tracked mechanics has us eagerly anticipating its early access debut on Quest 2 and subsequent versions. Catch FastHands in the Horizon Store when it becomes available on May 8th.
Until then, you can get in on the action early, as X82 is conducting closed multiplayer beta tests on the FastHands Discord server. Join for more information on accessing the game and the opportunity to share your feedback.
