In a significant development in the gaming world, The Molasses Flood, the studio known for “The Flame in the Flood,” has officially merged with CD Projekt, the powerhouse behind The Witcher 4. This move, which has been in the pipeline since CD Projekt acquired the studio in 2021, signals the end of TMF as an independent entity. However, there’s optimism in the air, with one of the studio’s co-founders expressing confidence in the healthy future for the Witcher spin-off they’ve been crafting.
In an announcement on The Molasses Flood’s website, it was confirmed, “As of April 1, 2025, The Molasses Flood LLC (‘TMF’) has merged with CD PROJEKT RED Inc. (‘CDPR Inc.’), part of the CD PROJEKT Group.” This step, previously highlighted in CD Projekt’s latest earnings call, underlines the company’s commitment to integrating their acquisitions seamlessly.
It’s important to note that while TMF is no longer a separate legal entity, its games “The Flame in the Flood” and “Drake Hollow” will still be available under the CD PROJEKT Group’s umbrella. The transition reflects an effort to unify efforts across the board, enhancing coordination and resource allocation.
Interestingly, Damian Isla, a co-founder of The Molasses Flood, has chosen this moment to exit the studio. Despite his departure, he’s upbeat about the merger’s implications. In a detailed LinkedIn post, he shared, “The decision to merge with CDPR proper is a strategic and encouraging step for the studio that also removes certain organizational hurdles, paving the way for tighter integration with CDPR’s talented team.”
Reflecting on Project Sirius, Isla said, “There’s a very promising horizon for what’s known as ‘the multiplayer Witcher game.’ Having been a Design Director there for three years, I can affirm it’s shaping up to be an extraordinary project. I can’t wait for the world to experience it.”
There’s a cautious optimism about what lies ahead for Project Sirius. Earlier in 2023, the project experienced some turbulence, facing a reset and some layoffs. Yet, CD Projekt’s recent earnings discussion pointed to Sirius being in the pre-production stage, hinting at a recalibrated approach moving forward.
