Genshin Impact has been somewhat of a desert when it comes to new characters from Mondstadt, at least since Version 1.5. Despite this, Mondstadt still boasts a roster of 19 characters. But fans can look forward to some fresh faces, with Dahlia expected to join the Mondstadt lineup in the spring of 2025, potentially breathing new life into this well-loved region.
When Genshin Impact made its debut in September 2020, it introduced players to the enchanting worlds of Mondstadt and Liyue. While Mondstadt served as an engaging introduction to the broader realm of Teyvat, it’s Liyue that has truly blossomed, with constant expansions both in maps and characters over the years.
There has long been chatter and anticipation about Mondstadt receiving a map expansion in Genshin Impact, fueled by theories and rumors. However, as of yet, this hasn’t materialized, despite teases from the developers about places like Varka and Dornman Port that fans would love to explore. This lack of expansion has led many players to feel that Mondstadt has been somewhat left in the dust, particularly as new regions like Inazuma take center stage. Version 5.4 clearly exemplifies this shift in focus, as it not only introduces a new 5-Star character but also centers major events around Inazuma.
A recent chart, courtesy of a user named Trigon05 on the Genshin Impact subreddit, provides a clear picture of this disparity. It lists the last three characters added to each region since the game began. For example, in Inazuma, we see Kirara (Version 3.7), Chiori (Version 4.5), and Mizuki (Version 5.4). By contrast, Mondstadt last saw Rosaria in Version 1.4, Eula in Version 1.5, and Mika in Version 3.5. The game’s developers have their reasons for holding back on new Mondstadt characters, and one might argue those reasons are justifiable given the circumstances.
Looking at Genshin Impact’s character distribution, Mondstadt, with its 19 characters, remains a vibrant hub. Characters like Jean, Bennett, Fischl, and Sucrose continue to be powerhouses in many players’ lineups even as we approach 2025. Only Liyue surpasses Mondstadt in character count, largely thanks to the annual Lantern Rite, which reliably introduces a new Liyue character each year. In contrast, regions like Sumeru and Fontaine find themselves trailing behind, while Natlan’s story is just beginning to unfold. All things considered, Mondstadt’s character count rationale does begin to make more sense, yet change seems to be on the horizon.
According to future character previews for Genshin Impact, Dahlia will debut by the close of Spring 2025. As the Deacon of the Church of Favonius, Dahlia is set to enhance Mondstadt’s offerings. However, even though the region is due for another 5-Star character, Dahlia and Ifa are predicted to arrive as 4-Star characters, continuing the wait for a male 5-Star add-on until at least Version 6.0. But with Version 5.5 slated for release on March 26, 2025, excitement is building and keeps Genshin Impact fans buzzing with anticipation.
