It looks like EA and Maxis have a special treat for fans of classic Sims games as they ring in the 25th anniversary of the beloved series. Those rumors you’ve been hearing about the re-release of the first two Sims games? They’re absolutely true, and they hit the shelves today.
The buzz had been building that EA would go digital with these PC games by the end of January — essentially this week. Right on schedule, they made it official on January 31st, sliding in just before the weekend kicked off. Talk about timing!
Now available on the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam, these classic titles are being sold as The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. And for those who want it all, there’s also a Sims 25th Birthday Bundle, packaging both collections together.
EA expressed their excitement in an announcement, stating, “To celebrate our legacy and honor the incredible fans that have been with us along the way, we’re re-releasing two fan-favorite titles that contain familiar neighborhoods and beloved characters – such as the sneaky burglar, unpredictable genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown – that started it all. Rediscover the nostalgia and magic of the classics that welcomed so many of you into our amazing community.”
Now, let’s talk numbers. You can snag the entire bundle for $39.99, just The Sims: Legacy Collection for $19.99, or The Sims 2: Legacy Collection for $29.99. Of course, it’s important to note which expansion packs come with each collection. Most of the original expansions are included, though fans might be disappointed to see that The Sims 2’s IKEA Home Stuff pack didn’t make the cut.
It’s a bit of a bummer, sure, but there are still plenty of goodies to enjoy. You’ll find two different holiday packs with The Sims 2, along with the H&M Fashion Stuff pack to satisfy any corporate fashion urges. Plus, each re-release comes with some cool extras from The Sims 4: the Throwback Fit Kit is bundled with the first game, and the Grunge Revival Kit with the second. Perfect if you haven’t picked them up yet.
So why not take a break from lounging in the quirky “meme jacuzzi” on EA’s eccentric Sims Y2K website? Dry off, and dive into these nostalgic re-releases if you’re up for a trip down memory lane.
