Practical Pockets is a bit of an oddball in the world of Avowed treasure maps. Typically, you’d expect a treasure map to guide you to a hidden stash, but this one is different. It gives you a view from the treasure’s location instead, leaving you with a puzzle to solve.
Fortunately, the spot you’re searching for isn’t too far off, and you won’t encounter too many foes lurking around, in stark contrast to the region’s Painter’s Regret treasure map. While the reward you’ll find may not bulk up your inventory despite its abundance of pockets, it’s stocked with a variety of resistances that are worth having.
In this Avowed guide, I’ll walk you through how to get your hands on the Practical Pockets map, pinpoint the location of its treasure, and let you in on what you stand to gain.
Let’s start with where you can snag the Practical Pockets map. Make your way to The Gifted Magpie, located in the southwestern part of Fior mes Ivèrno. It’s perched atop a few flights of stairs, and while you’re there, it’s a good chance to grab some grenade items — quite handy for your escapades in the Emerald Stair’s wilderness.
Now, onto solving the Practical Pockets location mystery. The map itself gives you a glimpse of a ruined stone square tower from behind. If you’ve already been exploring Fior mes Ivèrno, you might’ve figured out there’s only one such tower nearby — the Ranger Headquarters. It’s positioned to the northeast of Fior mes Ivèrno. Fair warning, there’s a roadblock of xaurips around the Rolling Crags beacon, but with a bit of maneuvering, you can simply sidestep or dismiss them for now.
Instead of making a beeline for the rangers’ tower, veer off to a path around the hill, heading northeast. Keep an eye out for a nondescript alcove nestled into a cliff, hidden under draping lichen and towering blue mushrooms. There, you’ll find a chest waiting to reveal Hjilde’s Handy Hide.
Much like the Stelgaer’s Price reward from the Intimidating Feline Codpiece treasure map over in Dawnshore, Hjilde’s Handy Hide offers a complete armor set laden with appealing bonuses.
When it comes to stats, Hjilde’s Handy Hide doesn’t disappoint. The magic lies in its enchantment. Poison might reign supreme in Emerald Stair, but soon enough, you’ll be contending with adversaries dishing out fire, frost, or shock damage too. Given that Hjilde’s Handy Hide is a second-level Fine quality piece right out of the gate, it’s wise to keep this armor close, no matter how tempting it might be to cash in on it.
