Sony is making waves by bringing cloud streaming to its PlayStation Portal with a major new update. However, this exciting feature is still in its beta stage, so access is limited for now.
On the PlayStation Blog, Hiromi Wakai, VP of product management, shared this thrilling development. The update not only enhances the device’s audio capabilities but also kicks off beta testing for cloud streaming with a selection of PS5 games.
More than 120 titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog are part of this trial, featuring popular first-party games such as Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, along with standout third-party games like Dave the Diver.
Game streaming can reach a resolution of up to 1080p at 60 FPS, although this might differ depending on the game and your internet connection. There is a catch, though—you’ll need to be a Premium tier PS Plus member to take advantage of the cloud streaming feature.
All in all, this is a significant move in the right direction, aligning with what many critics hoped for the Portal. But let’s be honest, Sony’s peripheral is already enjoying strong sales, so they don’t really have to prove anything at this point.
