And just like that, my streak of not spending a dime on Nintendo Switch Online has come to an end.
Tonight, Nintendo revealed some significant updates affecting Switch features. One of the crowd favorites will no longer be available following the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, and another won’t be in sync with Switch 2.
Starting March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET, Nintendo will wrap up the My Nintendo Gold program. This program has been a neat way to score 1% back in eShop credit on first-party physical releases during their first year, and an additional 5% on all eShop purchases. The only catch is that physical games released between March 25, 2024, and the program’s expiration can still earn rewards until the year runs out. So, titles from Endless Ocean: Luminous through Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition will qualify. However, this won’t include upcoming games like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
In related news, the Switch Online Vouchers got an update too. The support page clarified that these vouchers aren’t compatible with future Switch 2 games. Currently, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can buy a pair of these vouchers for $99 in the US or equivalent, and redeem them for first-party releases. Thankfully, they’ll still be redeemable for new releases on the original Switch, such as Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
