NVIDIA has revealed their substantial role in developing a custom processor for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, highlighting that this successor offers graphics performance that is ten times greater than the original Nintendo Switch.
This processor is equipped with an NVIDIA GPU that features dedicated RT Cores and Tensor Cores, designed to deliver incredibly detailed visuals and enhancements driven by artificial intelligence. The Tensor Cores play a crucial role in boosting AI-powered graphics while ensuring power efficiency is maintained. On the other hand, the RT Cores focus on elevating in-game realism by providing dynamic lighting and natural reflections.
For those who prefer playing in Handheld Mode, NVIDIA G-SYNC technology allows for an ultra-smooth gaming experience without any screen tearing, thanks to its support for variable refresh rates.
In a recent blog post, the company stated, “After investing 1,000 engineer-years into every aspect of its design—from the system and chip development to the creation of a custom GPU, APIs, and top-tier development tools—the Nintendo Switch 2 introduces significant enhancements.”
The new console is poised to enable up to 4K gaming when connected to a TV, and can achieve up to 120 frames per second at 1080p in handheld mode. It also supports high dynamic range (HDR) and AI upscaling, which work together to enhance visual clarity and gameplay fluidity.
Delving deeper, NVIDIA elaborated further: “The new RT Cores provide real-time ray tracing, which results in lifelike lighting, realistic reflections, and shadows that make gaming worlds more immersive.”
Additionally, the Tensor Cores power features like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), which elevates resolution to offer sharper image details without compromising quality. Beyond graphical enhancements, Tensor Cores also facilitate AI-driven features like face tracking and background removal during video chats, enriching both social gaming and streaming experiences.
Set to hit store shelves worldwide on June 5, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 will retail for £395.99 ($449.99).
