Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently reassured fans that Everwild is still very much in the pipeline. Given the scarcity of updates on this anticipated Xbox exclusive from Rare, it’s a relief to hear it’s progressing.
Rare has continued to develop Everwild since it was first introduced as a new IP at X019. Though snippets of information about the game have been few and far between, Phil Spencer shed some light on the project during a chat on the XboxEra podcast. When asked about his favorite unreleased games, Spencer revealed, “I was recently out at Rare. It’s encouraging to see the team working on Everwild and the progress they’re making.” Recognizing the long silence around the game, he added, “We’ve managed to give them the time they need, which is great, all while maintaining our strong portfolio.”
Reflecting on the journey, Spencer noted, “It’s like a dream that both Matt [Booty] and I have shared for quite some time, so it’s wonderful to finally see it coming together. Being able to give these teams the time they require is gratifying.”
The anticipation for Everwild has been building since it was first unveiled at X019. With the last trailer dating back nearly five years, any news confirming its active development is music to fans’ ears—especially considering how captivating the game’s premise appears.
So far, what we know is that Everwild immerses players in a mystical world where they embody Eternals, magical beings with a deep bond to nature. Since its announcement, I’ve been eager for Rare to unveil more about this enchanting world. It sometimes feels like I’m waving a banner that says, “Everwild is still in the works,” so it’s reassuring to have that validation directly from Spencer.
Here’s hoping that 2025 is the year we finally get more insights into Everwild. What are your thoughts? When do you think we’ll get to glimpse more of this intriguing new IP from Rare?
