Gwent, the fan-favorite digital trading card game originally introduced within The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has truly captivated players over the years. Although CD Projekt Red has stepped back from supporting its standalone offshoot, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, the game’s dedicated community has kept the spirit alive since 2023. Now, Hachette Boardgames is breathing new life into Gwent, aiming to transform it into a physical card game. Announced on Friday, this tangible version of Gwent is slated for a 2025 release. It will enter a crowded arena, competing with heavyweights like Magic: The Gathering, Disney Lorcana, and Star Wars: Unlimited.
Teaming up with publisher No Loading Games, Hachette Boardgames is diving into the world of “high-profile licenses,” and the Gwent tabletop adaptation is a key part of this strategy. The physical Gwent will launch with an impressive set of 400 cards and a playmat designed to capture the essence of its digital predecessor from The Witcher 3. Players will have the opportunity to engage in various game formats, catering to both casual play and competitive tournaments.
Rob Trounce, marketing manager at Hachette Boardgames, expressed his excitement in a news release, stating, “Gwent is arguably the largest ‘game within a game’ ever seen in media.” He added, “After a decade-long wait, we’re thrilled to partner with No Loading Games to bring this cherished game to tabletops in a remarkable package. Whether you’re a fan of Geralt’s adventures or a dedicated card game competitor, Gwent is set to be one of the standout games of 2025.”
Anticipation is building, as Gwent will be available in both the United Kingdom and the United States by the third quarter of 2025. Pricing details have been revealed, with the game set to retail for £44 in the U.K. and $39.99 in the U.S., promising fans a new, exciting way to experience Gwent.
