Vampire Survivors is showing no signs of slowing down, with a fresh update revealing a host of exciting new content on the horizon.
In today’s gaming landscape, it’s becoming increasingly rare to see indie games take off with the kind of astronomical success that defines their genre. But Vampire Survivors has done just that. After its full release in 2022, the game has seen numerous updates, including an intriguing Castlevania crossover. Developer poncle, in a recent Steam post, laid out some plans for the coming year. Up first, we can expect cross-save functionality rolling out “across all platforms” soon, potentially with the upcoming content patch, 1.13. However, poncle did caution that while they are aiming for this, it’s not a definite guarantee. Beyond that, they are also hoping to debut online co-op this year, though it seems we’ll have to wait for more solid confirmation on that front.
Poncle also touched on the live-action film that’s currently in the works over at Story Kitchen. They’re still committed to its development, but, as they put it, “rather than rushing into things just for the sake of it, we’ve preferred to wait for the right partners.” This is crucial because adapting Vampire Survivors into anything other than a video game demands good ideas, creativity, and a deep understanding of the game’s unique charm—three ingredients that are challenging to combine perfectly. Poncle hinted at some additional ‘cross-media’ projects they’re working on, although details remain under wraps for now.
When it comes to content updates, poncle plans to focus on free releases this year. These updates might be less frequent, but they promise to be more substantial. “More Adventures are on the way,” they explained, including one for Tides of the Foscari. There’s also a possibility of an adventure for Ode to Castlevania, driven by ideas that make it stand out from regular expansions. While paid DLC isn’t off the table, the scale and success of the Castlevania content make it a challenge to create something of that magnitude again within a reasonable timeframe and cost.
To wrap things up, poncle ended the post with a tantalizing tease, mentioning they have “a few not-Vampire-Survivors-but-totally-poncle projects to discuss this year.” While specifics are scarce, they hint that 2025 could be their biggest and most chaotic year yet. So, stay tuned—we can’t wait to see what surprises they have in store!
