It seems like Sony is finally taking steps to address the issues plaguing the PS5’s Activity Cards feature, which hasn’t been functioning properly for quite some time. We’ve previously explored this topic in detail, highlighting how these cards have turned almost redundant ever since Sony removed the ‘Resume Activity’ feature. Although it’s unlikely that we’ll see a return of that function, today’s PS5 system update suggests Sony is still paying attention to Activity Cards.
In February 2025, a new PS5 system update beta offers improvements to Activity Cards.
The ‘Resume Activity’ option was probably the best thing about Activity Cards, and its removal led Sony to largely ignore the feature. Back in December, I noted that Activity Cards were either not functioning or displaying incorrect information.
In the patch notes for the latest PS5 system software update beta—currently available by invitation only—Sony states:
“We’ve made it simpler to view details about activities. Activity details are now fully displayed on cards, but potential spoilers will still be hidden.”
So, it looks like ‘Resume Activity’ might be a thing of the past, just as I suspected. However, these patch notes indicate that the previously glitchy cards should now function as they were originally intended. While I’m not getting my hopes up too high, it’s certainly better to have some fix than none at all. We won’t truly know how effective these improvements are until players test them with a wide array of games, but it’s a step in the right direction.
It’s worth remembering that Sony emphasized Activity Cards quite a lot before the PS5 was released, which made their prolonged neglect rather surprising.
