Taking a closer look at recent trends, Amazon US data indicates a decline in sales of Quest headsets during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday period of 2024 compared to the same window in 2023. Numbers reveal that in 2023, around 170,000 Quest headsets were sold, while in 2024, this figure dropped to approximately 146,000 units, showing a noticeable 14% decrease. It’s important to note, though, that this data might not represent figures from other retailers.
What’s particularly surprising about these figures is that this year Meta introduced the enhanced Quest 3S, offered a reduced price for the Quest 3, and even launched a major game title—Batman: Arkham Shadow—right at the Black Friday mark.
Back in 2023, Meta was still largely marketing its older Quest 2 model. The Black Friday deal for the most popular version back then (128GB) was $250, with an additional $50 gift card, effectively bringing the price to a highly appealing $200.
Customers seemed to respond well to that bargain at the time, finding it more enticing than this year’s offer of a Quest 3S (128GB) model at $300, bundled with a $75 gift card, which essentially reduced the purchase price to $225.
Granted, the difference in cost isn’t dramatic, and from a value standpoint, the Quest 3S would likely justify that extra $25. However, many factors beyond just the sticker price play a role here—economic conditions, deals available on rival products, and shifts in VR interest aren’t to be overlooked.
In terms of the sales ratio for Quest 3S against Quest 3 during the 2024 Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the headsets mirrored the previous year’s trend with a sales ratio of around 3:1, which was similar to the Quest 2 and Quest 3 ratio observed back in 2023.
