Are you excited for some fresh pinball fun with Pinball FX? Let’s explore the highlights of the Williams Pinball Volume 8 in our review!
It’s the perfect time to dive back into Pinball FX, thanks to the Williams Pinball Volume 8 DLC pack bringing us three classic tables: Black Knight 2000, Earthshaker!, and Banzai Run. You have the choice to play these tables as they originally were or with the enhanced features we’ve come to love from Zen Studios updates. These enhancements include a 3D tower and an animated 3D Black Knight, as well as improved lighting and special effects. Earthshaker! also benefits from better lighting and additional effects, plus a cool 3D convertible zipping around and a 3D pocket seismograph on display. Banzai Run goes all out with a 3D helmet, bike, and rider, and 3D handgrips symbolizing the motorcycle you’re maneuvering with your pinball.
Let’s start with the Black Knight 2000 table, which boasts two levels of playfields, adding complexity to your strategy. Balls make their entrance at the upper playfield above the WIN rollovers, eventually finding their way to the lower field beside the Magna Save. It’s crucial to send the ball back to the upper playfield by using the Skyway Ramp or the Lightning Wheel Lane to maximize your score. Up here, you can’t lose the ball while racking up points!
While playing Black Knight 2000, your main objectives include hitting drop targets to spell out KNIGHT, relighting the left kickback, and collecting letters to spell BLACK for a score bonus by hitting the Skyway Ramp. Your timing needs to be spot-on, or it resets! With the spin lamp lit, shoot the ball into the Lightning Wheel for a random perk. If the lamp’s out, relight it by hitting the left inlane rollover.
Next, let’s delve into Earthshaker!, the set’s second table. Here, you’re exploring zones to forecast earthquakes and earn significant bonuses. The table’s plunger lane ends in a spiral with four exits, offering big score rewards if you send the ball out with sufficient speed. Landing the ball in the Shelter sinkhole unveils a rotating reward, offering anything from extra points to a quick multiball. Loop shots can increase bumper scores, and hitting flashing ZONE targets and lanes lights up the ball lock at the Shelter sinkhole. Lock two balls, release a third to start multiball, light the center ramp, and cross to secure the jackpot. This triggers the table’s trophy as well.
Finally, we reach the adrenaline-fueled Banzai Run. Racing against challengers, you aim for the top spot. Engage Red Hot by hitting red targets, Blue Beard with blue targets, Yellow Belly via yellow targets, and the Green Machine through green targets. As you progress, play moves to an exciting vertical field on the backglass. Scale the Banzai Hill to the finish line. Defeat all racers, reach rank #2, and enjoy a wild multiball segment, lighting up Time Lock and vying for the jackpot at Banzai Hill.
While the trophies are a fun bonus, the main challenge in Williams Pinball Volume 8 is to complete thrilling objectives like defeating riders to claim the motocross championship on Banzai Run, or spelling BLACK and targeting the Skyway on the Black Knight 2000 table. Each table brings its own thrills and challenges!
