If you’ve managed to skip the buzz this week, let me catch you up: The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered dropped unexpectedly on April 22, creating one of the most impressive surprise releases in gaming history.
The game quickly became a sensation on Steam. As of now, it hit a peak of 190,000 players at once on Valve’s platform. That doesn’t even consider those diving in via Xbox Game Pass or purchasing it on Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5.
I’m curious—are you playing it? How’s it been for you so far? Let us know over at Windows Central!
The Ideal Remaster
I’ve been immersed in it since launch day, though juggling work and a busy schedule means I haven’t progressed as much as I’d like. I’m in the midst of crafting Windows Central’s review of Oblivion Remastered, so stay tuned for that!
For now, I’ll say this: I’m thoroughly impressed. The new visuals from Virtuos are stunning, retaining the classic art style of Oblivion while adding heaps more detail.
Despite the enhancements, the game’s unique charm remains, as Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios so eloquently noted. I’ve already encountered plenty of beloved memes brought back to life in this remaster.
I think it nails the balance of updating an older game for a fresh audience while preserving its essence for loyal fans. Over time, I believe it will be celebrated as one of the finest remasters ever.
For newcomers, this could feel like a fresh Elder Scrolls experience, a perfect treat while we all await The Elder Scrolls 6.
