Masaaki Hayasaka, the creative mind behind the remarkable Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, recently shared some insights with Bloomberg regarding Square Enix’s cautious approach to rolling out HD-2D games. When asked about the possibility of remaking more Dragon Quest titles using this visually captivating engine, Hayasaka revealed that it’s a delicate issue within the company. The topic is under continuous debate even among higher-ups, reflecting their uncertainty about the best path forward.
Hayasaka explained, “The challenge is finding the right balance. If we release too many games too quickly, players might lose interest. Conversely, if there’s too much of a gap between releases, the series might lose its vitality. It’s not an easy puzzle to solve, and it’s something that keeps even my supervisors contemplating.”
