Recently, there’s been some buzz following an IGN report regarding the Nintendo Switch 2’s pre-order date in North America. Despite the excitement, Nintendo hasn’t officially changed the date yet. According to IGN, they referred to Nintendo’s FAQ from the pre-order page, which mentions that the first batch of invitations to join their pre-order program will be sent out on May 8th. Interestingly, this date has actually been present on that FAQ since the page was made public on April 2nd—just a couple of days before any delays were announced. To verify this, we checked using the Wayback Machine and confirmed that the information was there from the start.
The initial delay in pre-orders for the Switch 2 was due to tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on several countries, which were set to severely restrict the shipment of Switch 2 systems to the U.S. Fortunately, most of these tariffs have been significantly reduced following a 90-day pause. However, Nintendo has not yet updated their plans regarding the new pre-order schedule for North American customers.
