With a burst of nostalgia and excitement sweeping through the gaming community, it’s hard to ignore the buzz around today’s stream and sudden release of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remake. While my colleagues, die-hard fans of the classics, are practically popping champagne in celebration, there’s something else brewing for those eagerly looking ahead. Todd Howard took a moment to remind us that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still part of the plan, and yes, they’re actively working on it!
Howard’s words came just before we were treated to a buffet of exciting updates and dazzling footage from the Oblivion Remaster. His declaration was straightforward: “obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.” It’s not earth-shattering news, but it’s the most substantial morsel of information on The Elder Scrolls 6 since back in March 2024. That was when Bethesda confirmed that early builds were out there for testers to dive into and implied that the gaming experience was, indeed, enjoyable—something you’d definitely hope for!
Rewind a bit further, and you might recall the fiery bit of insight from a former Skyrim designer last October. According to them, we shouldn’t expect any updates on ES6 until around six months before it would launch. A month prior to that, Phil Spencer threw his two cents in, suggesting a release for ES6 within five years. At the time, it sounded almost comical, but here we are two years later with little to show—but we’re still holding onto hope.
If we’re talking about solid updates from Bethesda, it’s been eerily quiet over the years. They confirmed back in August 2023 that development had officially started, but let’s be honest, it was five years after the initial announcement at E3. Call me crazy for saying it, but maybe they jumped the gun with that announcement?
Now, setting aside the jokes and sarcasm, it’s genuinely refreshing to see some indication of life for Elder Scrolls 6. It feels like a lifetime ago that it was first announced—I was still a student then, and now I’m juggling adult responsibilities, bills, and the chaos of modern dating apps. Bethesda, renowned in the RPG world, will likely blow us away with what they eventually deliver. Although, a tiny sneak peek, like a piece of concept art, would be nice. Seriously, even Liam Neeson had more proof of life in ‘Taken’ than fans of this game do right now.
We’d love to hear from you—do you still feel a spark of excitement for ES6? And just for fun, how do you think my student loan debt will look by the time Elder Scrolls 6 becomes a reality? Drop your thoughts below!
