Naughty Dog Studios has some exciting news for all gaming enthusiasts—a fresh title called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is on the horizon. Announced at this year’s Game Awards, the game transports players to an intriguing sci-fi universe. The initial trailer paints a picture of a character who seems quite relatable—spending a bit of downtime enjoying some classic anime and spinning a record from a pet shop before launching into a cosmic escapade. Unlike the futuristic vibe we’re used to seeing in franchises like Star Wars, the world here is charmingly retro. Instead of sleek, modern interfaces, the protagonist navigates her journey with CRT monitors, vintage tech, and rather clunky keyboards; it’s all about function over form for her spaceship.
As a studio, Naughty Dog, backed by Sony, has built a reputation for crafting adventure games with a strong cinematic backbone. Think The Last of Us and Uncharted series—both brought gripping narratives to the gaming world. In this new venture, fans will recognize Troy Baker, known for his portrayal of Joel in The Last of Us. He returns to lend his voice to this game’s protagonist. Leading the creative charge is Neil Druckmann, who previously helmed The Last of Us games and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The storyline teaser introduces us to Jordan Munn, a bounty hunter on the trail of a criminal syndicate called The Five Aces. But her chase leads her into a snag—a crash landing on a far-off planet teeming with menacing robots.
According to Druckmann’s post on the Naughty Dog website, this project is “our wildest, most creative story yet,” and it has been secretly brewing since 2020. While we’re still in the dark about launch dates or specific platforms, Intergalactic promises to be a thrilling ride. The big question remains—how does the enigmatic heretic prophet fit into all of this? We’ll just have to stay tuned to find out.
