A well-known Fortnite insider recently revealed a sneak peek at an unreleased handcuff cosmetic, though it’s unclear whether this feature will ever see the light of day. Fortnite has a rich legacy of launching creative cosmetics, particularly during partnerships with other brands. However, not every inventive idea makes it through to the end, with some being abandoned during development.
Epic Games has rolled out Chapter 6 Season 2 of Fortnite, introducing players to a trove of new elements to engage with. This season has invigorated the battle royale format with fresh locales, weaponry, and unique seasonal mechanics. Among these innovations is the ability for players to use explosives to crack open bank vaults, securing powerful weapons and a peculiar currency to be traded on the black market. As expected, this update also brings a host of fresh skins for gamers to enjoy.
On Twitter, noted dataminer ShiinaBR recently showcased six concept designs for a yet-to-be-released handcuff cosmetic that could potentially join Fortnite’s array of enhancements down the line. Despite the intriguing designs — ranging from simple gold loops to complex high-tech cuffs — there’s no current gameplay mechanic that accommodates them, leading to speculation that they might never be added to the game. This situation is reminiscent of the much-talked-about but never-seen weapon charms, another concept that was likely shelved. It’s not unusual for these early ideas to surface in the game’s code only to be scrapped before reaching players.
Interestingly, some cosmetic features manage to surprise everyone by appearing without leaks, as was the case with Fortnite’s new Moments. Found under the music section in the locker, this feature allows players to get creative with their Jam Tracks, selecting tunes for intros or celebrations. This means players can choose between original tracks or licensed music for their descent from the Battle Bus or after claiming victory. The response to this new addition has been overwhelmingly positive.
Yet, not every new cosmetic goes down well with the community. Take the Kicks in Fortnite, for instance. While many fans enjoy customizing their characters with stylish footwear, there’s a common gripe about the cost of the Nike and Adidas collaborations — some kicking up to 1,000 V-Bucks, which equals $8.99 in real-world currency. With some character outfits priced at just 800 V-Bucks, many feel it’s odd that accessories would cost more than the characters themselves. Despite these cosmetic controversies, the eagerness to jump into Chapter 6 Season 2 remains undiminished among Fortnite’s large fanbase.
