Steel Wool Studios dropped some exciting news this week, announcing that “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic” is set to launch on June 13th for PS5 and PC. However, something curious has caught the community’s attention—the absence of any mention of PSVR 2 support, which was previously featured prominently.
Fans of the franchise got a glimpse of the game during PAX West 2024 when it was showcased with a PSVR 2 demo. At that time, the game appeared poised to offer a unique blend of virtual reality and traditional gameplay, thanks to the innovative work of the XR studio.
Steel Wool Studios, which has been creating VR-native experiences since 2012 and received a $5 million investment from HTC back in 2016, has been known for previous titles like “Hello Neighbor Search and Rescue” (2023) and “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted” (2019, with its 2024 sequel).
But now, just as they’ve revealed the release date for this upcoming installment, all signs of PSVR 2 compatibility have vanished from their promotional materials. Even the PlayStation Store page for “FNAF: Secret of the Mimic,” which earlier seemed to offer optional PSVR 2 support, no longer does.
The latest acknowledgement of PSVR 2 involvement came through a PlayStation release date announcement post on February 12th, which has been subsequently removed. This silence on PSVR 2’s role leaves fans wondering if the VR experience will be delayed or even scrapped.
While we’re still awaiting a response from Steel Wool Studios regarding the future of PSVR 2 compatibility, there’s also uncertainty surrounding whether the PC versions—set to be available on the Epic Games Store and Steam—will come with VR support.
We’ve reached out to the team for any official statements but haven’t had any luck yet. Rest assured, we’ll keep everyone updated as soon as more information surfaces or if this indicates a strategic shift in their release plans.
As for the game itself, “FNAF: Secret of the Mimic” will take players into the eerie depths of Murray’s Costume Manor. You’ll piece together the secrets left by the mysterious inventor Edwin Murray. The Mimic is presented as a versatile prototype capable of adopting any disguise, transforming into what you dread the most.
You’re on your own with just your quick thinking, some clever gadgets, and a partially redacted corporate briefing. Your mission is to secure Fazbear’s advanced prototype while navigating obscure hints and fending off a tenacious shadow intent on eliminating intruders.
